Materials & Tools Needed

Plywood
2x4 lumber
Wood screws
Wood glue
Sandpaper
Paint or stain

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Cut Wood Pieces

Cut plywood for tabletop (e.g., 40x20 inches). Cut four legs from 2x4s (e.g., 16 inches long) and four apron pieces (e.g., two 36 inches, two 16 inches).

2

Assemble Apron Frame

Attach apron pieces to form a rectangle using wood glue and screws. Ensure corners are square. This frame will support the tabletop.

3

Attach Legs

Securely attach legs to the inside corners of the apron frame using pocket hole screws or L-brackets. Ensure legs are plumb.

4

Prepare and Attach Tabletop

Sand the plywood tabletop until smooth. Center it on the apron frame and attach from underneath with screws. For a thicker look, add a second layer of plywood or hardwood trim.

💡 Pro Tip

Consider adding a decorative edge trim for a more finished look.

5

Sand Entire Table

Smooth all surfaces and edges of the assembled coffee table with sandpaper, progressing from medium to fine grit.

6

Apply Finish

Apply your desired paint or wood stain. Allow to dry completely, then add a protective clear coat (polyurethane or varnish) for durability.

7

Add Finishing Touches

Add felt pads to the bottom of the legs to protect your floors. Let the finish cure fully before use.
