Herbal Remedy Tinctures
Create natural herbal tinctures for wellness using traditional extraction methods.

Materials & Tools Needed
Step-by-Step Instructions
Select and Prepare Herbs
Choose high-quality dried herbs or fresh herbs at peak potency. Chop or grind herbs coarsely to increase surface area for extraction.
💡 Pro Tip
Use a 1:5 ratio for dried herbs (1 part herb to 5 parts liquid) or 1:2 for fresh herbs.
Choose Extraction Menstruum
Select 80-100 proof alcohol (vodka or grain alcohol) for most herbs, or vegetable glycerin for alcohol-free tinctures. Alcohol is more effective for most compounds.
Combine Herbs and Liquid
Place herbs in a clean glass jar and cover completely with your chosen liquid. Ensure herbs are fully submerged with an extra inch of liquid on top.
Maceration Period
Seal jar tightly and store in a cool, dark place for 4-6 weeks. Shake jar vigorously once daily to agitate the mixture and improve extraction.
💡 Pro Tip
Label jars with herb name, menstruum used, and start date.
Strain the Tincture
After maceration, strain liquid through cheesecloth or muslin, squeezing herbs to extract maximum liquid. Discard spent plant material.
Bottle and Store
Transfer finished tincture to dark amber or cobalt glass bottles with dropper tops. Label with contents, date, and suggested dosage. Store away from light and heat.
